Home Sweet Homes

Four new care homes had been opened in the borough during the past two years, providing local support for hundreds of older people.

These purpose-built homes are spread across the borough and are designed to provide for people who have a variety of needs, ranging from the dementia to other nursing needs relating to old age.

The aim is to allow residents to continue living as independently as possible while receiving care and support, and allow them to do as much as they can for themselves.

Chestnut Lodge in Woodfield Road, Ealing, is the last of the four homes to be completed, and it opened in July.

The other three are Elmer Lodge in Mali close, Greenford; Martin house in Swift Road (off Hunt Road), Southhall; and Sycamore Lodge in edgecot place, Acton.

All four buildings provide residents with individual single rooms with en-suite bathrooms. They are divided into five units of 15 – 16 rooms, which each have the own communal lounge, dining area and kitchen at. Every unit also has an activities room, a quiet room, and assisted bathroom, shower room and toilet.
The homes were built through a partnership of Ealing Council, Ealing primary care trust and West London mental health trust. They are managed by Servite Houses, a leading national housing Association with more than 50 years experience.

Cllr Mark Reen, the council's cabinet member for adult services, said: “ while we prefer that people needing care stay at home for as long as possible; elderly people can find that moving into a care home can often be necessary particularly after illness or injury”.

“our residents demand that the quality of his care homes need to be excellent and I kept it close to relatives and friends. With Chestnut Lodge we have completed the rebuilding of the council's own care home is state and a new homes are all excellent, with en-suite rooms and specially built facilities for residents”.

“ the latest development in means that, in conjunction with our other private sector providers, Ealing now has some of the best provisions of older people available anywhere”.
