Ealing hosts its own 'carbuncle cup' to honour architects at their worst

Do you have a favourite new building, landscape or other work of architectural genius that makes you glad you live in Ealing?

Or how about developments that make you shudder with discussed every time you will pass them? We know we do.

Now Ealing civic society is inviting residents to make their own feelings known in its 20th annual awards. To make the milestone, the group, which works to improve Ealing and preserve the best aspects of the borough, is adding a ‘worst development’ category for the first time.

Nominations will be shortlisted and then judged by a panel of two architects and a landscape architect. Those impressing the experts will either be given a certificate of commendation or a much coveted plaque.

Last year Northfield's library was commended and Northala Field Park highly commended. The most disliked will receive the dubious honour of the wooden spoon award.

The developments must have been built within the past two years and been in use for the past six months. Nomination forms can be found at www.ealingcivicsociety.org or in hardcopy in the borough's libraries. Entries must be received by 1st October 2009.
